Born and raised by the ocean in New England, then living most of life in California and Florida I can never get  enough of any ocean. 

In Florida I participated in numerous Arts &  Crafts events over the years where I engraved personalized shells and scenes for visitors from all over the world. My hand made engraved  shells are putting smiles on faces all over the world even as you read  this and I love that!

This is an old craft however about only 3 people in the US are actually doing the work. The work is dangerous and needs to be done carefully. It is time consuming and takes a great deal of patience.

Production Methods

Say It On A Shell - Custom Personalized Engraved Seashells - Names, Sayings and Images on Tiger Cowrie Seashells and other types of shells. Each shell is hand engraved by me here in the USA. Since most shells have a solid color under the top layer I find shells with patterns like Noble Volutes, Imperial Volutes and some Cone shells to engrave so they will reflect the etching. However - I have etched different kinds of Helmet Shells like the Cameo Helmet and Yellow Helmet. Pink Conchs, Whelks and other conch shells that still come out very cool even though the top color matches the color underneath. As long as they have a flat smooth surface - I can etch them -

How is this done?

Very Carefully! 

• First step is creating the stencil (stencils can only be used one time) 
• Second is the application of the stencil to the shell. 
• Third is the etching 
• Final step is removing the stencil to reveal the name or image 

My cowries are full size adult tiger cowries ranging from 3 to 3 1/2 inches. These custom engraved shells are one of a kind. No two shells are 100% alike
